Stillborn Memorials
Infant mortality was high in days gone passed, due to the lack of technology and knowledge. When families were faced with having a stillborn child, the course of action of the day was to have these children shuffled away quickly as possible and buried in some quite corner of the cemetery in an unmarked grave. This left families (mainly mothers) little time to grieve or reflect the loss of a child.
As a token towards the community, Wellington Memorials Ltd worked with most local authorities including the Wellington City Council, Upper Hutt City Council and the Porirua City Council to design, manufacture and Install the stillborn memorials that you see below.
We have had many calls from people telling us how the stillborn memorials have helped them heal wounds that they have carried, sometimes for over 50 years.
